Contribution to industry and social initiatives

Policy

The Group will participate in a variety of activities in local communities and work to resolve global issues.

Awareness of Issues

In addition to obtaining the understanding of local communities, it is important to develop together with local communities in order to conduct business activities, including manufacturing at our plants. To this end, we are conducting various social contribution activities, such as volunteer activities, at our plants and offices around the world. At the same time, we support to resolve global issues that cannot be addressed by the Group alone, such as by providing ongoing donIations to the UN's refugee support activities.

Initiatives at Overseas Group Companies

Removing Waste from the River Rhine (Germany)

SE Tylose, together with the Rhine Cleanup, an organization working to clean up the River Rhine, organized an action to collect discarded waste from the river. The Rhine, one of the largest rivers in Europe, is an important trade channel as well as a source of drinking and hydroelectric power, and is an indispensable part of people's lives. However, large amounts of waste, including plastic waste, flow into the ocean via rivers like the Rhine, adversely affecting marine life and human health. The waste, which was collected over a distance of about two kilometers on the banks of the river, included baskets, metal boxes, tires, bumpers, glass, mattresses, soccer balls, cigarette filters, and bottles. The c ompany plans to continue this activity in the future.

Silicone oil with a mosquito-repelling skin surface technology

Silicone oil has many advantages, including: 1) a proven track record as a cosmetic raw material; 2) low surface tension; and 3) a wide range of viscosities. By adding silicone oil with these characteristics to repellents, we have implemented a technology that modifies the surface of the skin to make it unattractive to mosquitoes. It is a repellent that prevents mosquito bites using a different approach from the conventional one: mosquitoes fly away because they are never able to assume the position to draw blood. The repellent distributed to the children was appreciated both for its comfortable, non-sticky feel and the fact that it is safe for use by children. Going forward, we will continue to contribute to solving problems for customers and society through the development of products and technologies.

Support for Science & Engineering Challenge (Australia)

Each year, the University of Newcastle in Australia, in cooperation with local companies, runs an outreach program aimed at encouraging aspiring mathematicians and engineers to study sciences and mathematics at school so that they can pursue a career in the technological world. At this year’s program, held in May 2023, Simcoa Operations Pty. Ltd. sponsored an event called Simcoa Challenge Day. On the first day, eight Simcoa employees volunteered to help the children as they took on a variety of challenges, including designing earthquake-proof towers and providing the lowest-cost electricity to a city.
