Report on the impact of the Thai floods on Shin-Etsu’s Thai operations

2011.10.19

With regard to the severe flooding that is occurring in Thailand, we would like to inform you about the information we have about its impact at this point on the situation of the Shin-Etsu Group’s companies in Thailand.

A) Impact of floods on our personnel and facilities

At present, none of the personnel at the Shin-Etsu Group’s companies in Thailand have suffered from any injuries due to the floods.
The situation of each of our Thai production bases is as follows:

(1) Shin-Etsu Magnetics (Thailand), Ltd.

Location: Pathum Thani Province, Navanakorn Industrial Estate (Head Office/Plant)
Business: Assembly and processing of VCMs (voice coil motors) for HDDs (hard disk drives).
As an affect of the flooding, water has begun to inundate the plant and presently operations at the plant have been suspended. We will inform you of any changes in the situation as they occur.

(2) Shin-Etsu Silicones (Thailand), Ltd.

Business: Production and sales of silicone products

Asia Silicones Monomer Ltd.

Business: Production and sales of silicone monomer
Both plants are located in Rayong Province, and at present, no direct flood-related damage has occurred.

B) Impact on the Group’s business results

Although the duration of the operations stoppage at Shin-Etsu Magnetics (Thailand), Ltd. is uncertain at this point, because we have a back-up production system at our other Shin-Etsu Group production bases, such as in Malaysia, at this time the affect of Thailand’s floods on the business results of the entire Shin-Etsu Group is slight.
