Traffic Safety Activities (Shirakawa Plant)

Shin-Etsu Handotai’s Shirakawa Plant conducted traffic safety activities during commuting hours in conjunction with a prefecture-wide traffic safety campaign. There is an elementary school near the plant, and since school hours and commuting times overlap, extra caution is required, especially for employees who commute by car. As part of the traffic safety activities, participants called for traffic safety at pedestrian crossings, where pedestrians have priority, and raised awareness of the danger of failing to notice small children due to distracted driving or poor visibility. The Shirakawa Plant will continue its traffic safety activities to improve employee safety awareness and contribute to the elimination of traffic accidents in the community.

Summer School for Local Elementary School Students (Naoetsu Plant)

The Shin-Etsu Chemical Naoetsu Plant holds a summer school for 4th to 6th graders at local elementary schools, with employees in their first year at the Company serving as teachers. This initiative has been held continuously since 1975 for the purpose of regional exchange and contribution to the local community. In addition to helping children with their summer homework, the summer school helps promote better communication with the children through recreational activities. Teaching children is also a good experience for the employees, since it allows them to figure out what the students do not understand and think of how to explain it more clearly.

Volunteer Tree Planting at Akazurayama (Shirakawa Plant)

In September 2025, employees of Shin-Etsu Handotai Shirakawa Plant participated in a tree-planting activity held on Akazurayama, a mountain that straddles Fukushima and Tochigi Prefectures, as part of an environmental conservation project organized by Fukushima Prefecture. Braving the cold and rain, numerous employees gathered to plant approximately 200 saplings, including two native alder species (yamahanoki (alnus hirsuta) and yashabushi (alnus firma)), with the cooperation of local businesses and volunteer groups. Carrying saplings and hoes, the volunteer employees spent about an hour and a half hiking up the mountain trail, gaining roughly 340 meters in elevation, in order to plant trees to restore the natural environment.
