Methanol is the simplest form of alcohol and is used as a paint solvent and a reactive solvent as well as antifreeze. It is also used as a chemical raw material for many organic synthetic compounds and as a raw material for gasoline additives and biodiesel fuel. Shin-Etsu Chemical also uses it for the production of silicone and cellulose derivatives.
