We would like to express our heartfelt sympathies to all of the people who were affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake that occurred on March 11, 2011. We fervently wish for the early recovery of the region affected.

With regard to the effects of the Great East Japan Earthquake, up to now we have reported on the situation of the Shin-Etsu Group’s plants that were affected by the disaster. We can now report that the Shin-Etsu Handotai’s Shirakawa Plant’s production capacity has recovered to the level prior to the earthquake disaster.

With the full restoration of the Shirakawa Plant, the restoration of all of the Shin-Etsu Group’s affected production bases have been completed, including Shin-Etsu Chemical’s Kashima PVC plant and optical fiber preform plant, where full-scale operations have already begun.

Since the occurrence of the earthquake, we received messages of sympathy and words of encouragement from so many people, including our clients and related-people, and many people have taken part in the restoration of our disaster-affected production bases. With the support we have received from all of you, Shin-Etsu was able to overcome the effects of this unprecedented major disaster. We, again, want to sincerely thank you.

We have reported in detail about the impact of the Great East Japan Earthquake on the Shin-Etsu Group’s plants in 11 reports that have posted on Shin-Etsu Chemical’s website. Inasmuch as all of the Group’s affected plants have now resumed their full-scale operations, this 11th report will be the final one on the earthquake’s impact on the Shin-Etsu Group’s plants.
