Shin-Etsu Group current situation impacted by the 2011 off the Pacific Coast of Tohoku Earthquake

Concerning the 2011 off the Pacific Coast of Tohoku Earthquake that occurred on March 11, 2011, the current situation of the Shin-Etsu Group is as follows;

Current situation of Shin-Etsu Group’s plants

As of 9:00a.m., March 12 (Japan Time), operations are stopping at the following Shin-Etsu Group’s production sites due to the impact of the earthquake such as shutdown of electric power supply after the occurrence of the earthquake.

  • Shin-Etsu Chemical Gunma Complex (Annaka, Gunma Pref.)
  • Shin-Etsu Chemical Kashima Plant (Kamisu, Ibaraki Pref.)
  • Shin-Etsu Handotai’s Shirakawa Plant (Nishigo Village, Fukushima Pref.)

Regarding restart of the operations, it will be decided upon the safety inspection of each equipment and facility.

Current Situation of Shin-Etsu Group Employees

It is confirmed that three employees of Shin-Etsu Handotai’s Shirakawa Plant were slightly injured by the earthquake.

We will implement necessary inspections, and resume operation of the production facilities one by one when their safety confirmation measures have been completed. We will announce the updated information if any situation has changed.
