Follow-up Report on the gas eruption at Shin-Etsu’s Naoetsu Plant (as of February 26)
With regard to the natural gas eruption that occurred about 1:20 p.m. on February 23, 2018 at Shin-Etsu’s Naoetsu Plant, the gas eruption stopped for the time being on Feb. 24 and the safety at the plant was confirmed. However, from the early morning of Feb. 26, once again a gas eruption occurred that included water and sludge.
No flammable gas has been detected outside of the building; however, we are continuing with our water-discharging operation and inspection of the degree of concentration of the gas.
We wish to sincerely apologize to all the local residents and other concerned people for continuing to cause them anxieties and inconveniences. We are dealing with this situation by taking all the necessary measures while keeping in close contact with the fire department and police department.
