Shin-Etsu Chemical concludes patent licensing agreement for the manufacturing of solar cells
Shin-Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Tokyo, President: Yasuhiko Saito), and JA Solar Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Beijing, China, Chairman and CEO: Jin Baofang), have concluded an agreement regarding approval for the utilization by JA Solar of the patent Shin-Etsu Chemical holds on the manufacturing of Ga (gallium)-doped crystalline silicon, wafers and cells.
With regard to solar panels that make use of solar cells manufactured with single crystal silicon as a material, during the very first hours of exposure to solar light, a performance-loss phenomenon known as light-induced degradation (LID) occurs. The patent Shin-Etsu Chemical holds regarding the manufacturing of Ga-doped crystalline silicon, wafers and cells is one of the most effective methods to reduce this phenomenon of light-induced degradation.
By incorporating the technologies based on this patent, JA Solar can improve the first year of its solar panel output warranty rate by 0.5 percentage points and realize even greater superiority in power-generation performance as well as a higher amount of electric power generation.
JA Solar is a photovoltaic (PV) products maker that manufactures high performance solar cells and solar panels from crystalline silicon, and it also is participating in the setting up of large-scale photovoltaic power-generation plant projects. It was established in 2005, and it is supplying solar cells and solar panels worldwide as one of China’s three major solar cell makers.
