●Polyvinyl chloride (PVC)

Among general-purpose resins, PVC scores high from the standpoint of environmental evaluation due to its low impact on the environment. PVC is used extensively to produce everyday items and as an industrial material. PVC is commonly used in automotive applications because it is flame resistant, durable, and a good electrical insulator. It is also easy to recycle, a benefit that translates to reduced consumption of natural resources.

Silicones combine the features of inorganic and organic materials. These functional materials exhibit diverse characteristics including high- and low-temperature resistance, good weatherability, water repellency, good releasability and good performance as an electrical insulator. Silicones are used in a wide range of automotive applications and are produced in many forms including fluids, resins, rubbers, liquid rubbers and silanes.

●Cellulose Derivatives

Cellulose derivatives are eco-friendly materials made from natural polymers. They are used in a range of applications as a binder or a thickener. Cellulose derivatives are used in automotive parts including exhaust-gas-filters and diesel particulate filters (DPF) both of which are being used to reduce harmful emissions as well as a molding binder for ceramic components.

●Liquid Fluoroelastomers: SHIN-ETSU SIFEL

SHIN-ETSU SIFEL is an innovative new fluoroelastomers based on addition-cure silicone. When heated, SIFEL cures to become an elastic rubber. SIFEL has low-temperature resistance, resistance to oil, solvents and other chemicals, and workability that far surpass conventional products. It can be used for adhesive sealing, coating and potting of electronic components and a wide range of other applications.

●Rare Earths

Over the years, Shin-Etsu has developed a number of effective technologies for purifying rare earth oxides and controlling particle size and shape. We continue to add new items to our rare earth product lineup. Rare earths are used in various automotive applications, contributing to vehicles that get better mileage and are more environmentally friendly.

●Rare Earth Magnets

Rare earth metals are the primary material in these high-performance permanent magnets. All steps of the production process are handled in-house, from separation and refinement of the rare earth elements up to the manufacture of finished magnets. We sell magnets and also provide technical support in the development and application of magnetic circuits. Rare earth magnets hold great potential for manufacturers working to motorize auto parts and produce smaller, lighter, more powerful cars.

●Silicon Wafers

The demand for silicon wafers is on the rise with the increasing use of electronic devices in automobiles. As the world's largest silicon wafer manufacturer, Shin-Etsu Handotai was one of the first to begin mass production of cutting-edge 300-mm wafers and establish a framework ensuring consistent supply to the world's markets. Our diverse product lineup also includes SOI wafers and other special wafers.

●Compound Semiconductors

Compound semiconductors are used to manufacture LEDs, lasers and other light emitting devices. With our integrated production system, Shin-Etsu produces GaP (gallium-phosphide), GaAs (gallium-arsenide) and AlGaInP (aluminum-gallium-indium-phosphide) compound semiconductor chips starting from single crystals.

●Vinyl chloride Emulsions

Nissin Chemical was one of the first manufacturers in the world to develop this type of innovative emulsion product using special copolymer technology. This unique product effectively uses the characteristics of vinyl chloride so that the adhesive can be used with various materials, including vinyl chloride products. In addition, the products is good for high-frequency welding, and is nonflammable. This vinyl chloride emulsion is highly utilized by industry, especially in adhesives and coatings.

●Acrylic Emulsions (halogen-free flame retardant)

These acrylic acid ester emulsions resist burning thanks to the addition of a halogen-free flame retardant. Objects treated with these emulsions (by coating or dipping) exhibit excellent flame retardancy. Because the flame retardant contains no halogen, no dioxins are produced during combustion (thus meeting European environmental regulations). Because they contain no formalin or endocrine disruptors, these resins can be used to manufacture eco-friendly products. Uses include car seats and other automotive applications.

●Silicone/Acrylic Copolymer Resin

This synthetic resin is a powdered version of silicone/acrylic copolymer resin, which offers the superior surface characteristics of silicone and acrylic's good compatibility with other types of resin. Thus, the product has high mutual solubility with vinyl chloride resin, ethylene propylene diene terpolymer (EPDM), and other synthesized resins. The silicone component gives a surface better sliding performance, antifriction, blocking resistance as well as controlling vibration and noise.

●Hot-Melt Adhesive

This adhesive is a solid at room temperature. To apply the adhesive, heat it to melt using an applicator. Seconds after application, it solidifies to adhere. This product is used in areas where speed and high productivity are vital. NISSIN HOT MELT is widely used in bookbinding, box assembly and bag making, as well as for plywood and sanitary materials.

●Input Devices (Rubber Contact)

Shin-Etsu was a pioneering manufacturer of keypads. Using advanced composites technologies and molding technologies, we develop products with greater operability and functionality, and now hold the top market share in this field. In recent years, keypads are being used to an increasing extent in automotive applications.


Shin-Etsu Polymer holds the top share of the global market for rubber connectors. Our connectors contribute to smaller and thinner electronic components. In addition to aforementioned rubber connector, our lineup also includes metal connectors and other specialized functional products.

●View Control Film (VCF)

Our view control films prevent the "unwanted reflection" seen in window glass at night, cut incoming sunlight during the daytime, and generally improve the contrast of display devices.

●Decorative Film (Mille-tint Film)

Shin-Etsu Mille-tint is a laminated film produced using our proprietary LCS* mirror finish fabrication technology. Mille-tint film was designed for use with insert-molded items. With Mille-tint, moldings can be produced that have a luxury appearance, without the use of paints.

●Molding Compounds (EXELAST: olefin and PVC compounds)

Shin-Etsu Excelast are suitable for various auto moldings parts due to those outstanding work. Excelast are very popular as a solution material because each grade has one and only high performance.

*LCS (Laminate Calendar System): This press fabrication system is based on double continuous belts. Single- or multi-layer plastic sheets (usually thermoplastic resins) are sandwiched between two mirror-finish steel belts and pressed under a continuous pressure. This system heats and cools laminates quickly and consistently.
